If you have just 45 minutes left to catch the contents of Thomas Friedman’s book “The world is flat”, here is the solution: See and listen to Thomas Friedman lecturing about his thesis at MIT:

The video is worth seeing, every minute of it. Even the lecture is quite US centric (not the book), there is more than enough room left to learn about the original intention of the book which is about global trends and how they influence social life, learning and work. – By the way, the lecture itself is part of the MIT Open Courseware:

My reimagecommendation: Check out the video. There is little value to add from Wikipedia resource in this case, besides this 3 sentence summary: “In the book, Friedman recounts a journey to Bangalore, India when he realized globalization has changed core economic concepts.  In his opinion, this flattening is a product of a convergence of personal computer with fiber-optic micro cable with the rise of work flow software. He termed this period as Globalization 3.0, differentiating this period from the previous Globalization 1.0 (in which countries and governments were the main protagonists) and the Globalization 2.0 (in which multinational companies led the way in driving global integration).”
